New Windows 8.1

As many of you know the new Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 update is now available to download. And as a Student Representative for Window’s I have had the opportunity to show people all the amazing features that the windows has to offer by demos of Microsoft products and the surface pro. You are probably wondering how did I become a representative for Windows. Well I had to apply for the internship and went through many interviews. I was very excited when they called me and told me that I have been selected to represent the Mid American Region. I am a Windows UCrew Campus Representative for Ferris State University. There are 754 of us across 450 campuses. My job is to engage my peers and guide them though experiencing Microsoft products.

Here is a little background on Microsoft. Microsoft was founded in 1975, it is the worldwide leader in software, services, and solutions that help people and business. Microsoft has 90,000 employees worldwide. The key consumer businesses include Windows, Office, Xbox, Windows Phone, and Surface.

Take a Tour

Watch this video to see more of the features of Windows 8.1, and how it brings you the best of the apps and the desktop.

Windows 8.1 PCs and tablets are designed to save power and have long battery life. You will spend less time looking for an outlet to plug it in. You can have your windows, everywhere. The settings and apps come with you. You don't need to change your settings on both devices just one, they will transfer. Only buy the app once and use your apps on up to 5PCs or tablets. My favorite is skydrive. Your files are always with you, wherever you go! Stay connected to your photos and documents with skydrive and an Internet connection.

SkyDrive

Is a free online storage that comes with Windows 8.1. You can save documents, photos and other files to skydive with no problem, and read them anywhere on any pc or device. A lot of college students loved the idea of no longer having to email files to them or carry around a USB flash drive. They can just access it from any pc and continue to work on their projects. It is so useful.

Do you ever have the problem of trying to look at two screens at once? Well with windows 8.1 you can see more, and do more. It lets you work the way you want to work. Depending on the size of your screen, you can see up to four apps at once. You can work on a word file, search the web, watch a video, and much more. No more switching tabs back and forth all the time. Just snap multiple apps side by side in a single view for easy multitasking.

With Windows 8.1 you can make it yours. Personalization is a must. Starting from your start screen customization, to your tiles, and to a personal lock screen. You lock screen shows a slideshow of your favorite photos. In addition, you can answer skype calls, take photos before you even unlock your PC.  And my personal favorite is the picture password. Instead of typing a password, you can unlock by drawing shapes on your photo of your choice with your finger or your mouse. The choice is yours to make it your own. Another feature is Bing Smart Search, search for one thing in multiple places one on screen.
And of course last but not least, is the Window’s store. A place where you can search for any app you want. Many are free to download. You can sort by rating, price, and category. There are so many more features for Windows 8.1; you definitely want to check it out for yourself or ask me if you have more questions. Below is a link to download the new Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 Download
